Chilled out!

My last day wasn't that bad after all - I gave myself a hard task to complete and managed it - so that put a smile on someones face, a few nice parting words were said to me, and a nice phone call was received!

Happy Christmas and New Year!

Dan :)

End game!

And so it begins the final chapter of life at Databiz (ODS). I'm heading in late today as I was up at the crack of dawn yesterday. I was creating a DVD that was going to be hand delivered by one of the Oxford crew on ODS's lear jet *cough* "easy jet" from kidlington airport! Not really but it was going on a plane - until we found out, much to my disappointment that it didn't need to travel up north and could go to the clients London office, which is what I initially suggested on Friday!

I'm doing a hannover *cough* I mean hand-over today, I'm going to try my absolute best to dilute 8 years of experience and knowledge into half-a-day haha yeh right, I might see if I can get some extra wonga out of it, by offering a consultancy fee!

Just had a call from the lovely Lesley in Oxford about what has been the bain of my life at Databiz, Redemptorist Publications - I so wish I never offered to help Si out with that project - its like (God's) way of telling me to believe or be punished. I'd rather get punished any day, than worship something that I cannot see.

What ever happened to MC Hammer wot a tune, I am listening to my mix of leaving work tunes, looking forward to 5:30 when I play out with "Europe - The Final Countdown".

Jesus H Christ

The smelly man is on the train again, and there is a spare seat next to me - I might have to pretend I've gone mad and start talking to the empty space - he might respect that as he sees invisible people and holds conversations with them on the train!

The carriage where he is, is absolutely rammed full of people - I wonder how long it will be until people start moving into this carriage!

I'm looking forward to an ice cold beer when I get in!

Ludacris Speed

Faster than light travel... Well not quite but Mr. Branson does put on a good spread - just finished my afternoon tea on my Journey South from the North West of Preston.

The joys of proper work will be resting on my shoulders tomorrow - but it will only be for four days and then I'm finished - the sad thing is that I have to leave my precious behind (powerbook) however I'm told that I will receive something better a nice new technicolor dreamcoat - which will be fun, complete wth bells and whistles! (Gadgets my dear Watson Gadgets)

Just leaving Crewe next stop Rugby.

Adios amigos I'm sure we'll meet again very soon!

“squeal” a mouse ran down my leg!

Is what my work colleague Noel spouted in the office today, a little mouse ran down his leg - no doubt look for a new abode!

It was diddy and brown, Noel reckons there is a nest of mice behind his desk - don't think they have nests do they?

I think it was Danger Mouse as it was sitting on the AC power supply to Noel's computer... Penfold where art thou!

New book on the horizon

Not sure if I mentioned it, I wrote a book of scary poems and chilling tales a few years ago - and then lost the manuscript. Anyhow found it again - well I didn't my lovely Emma found it - and its going to be another book - hopefully will make me rich in 2006!

Details and release date to come soon - mean while checkout www.dansheridan.co.uk for a sneak preview of one of the poems - indestructible!

Haven't blogged for a while

With the potential cull of staff taking place at work, I have finally found new work and refuse to board a sinking ship for the second time, already done that and walked the plank first!

Looking forward to my new position and all its challanges that lie ahead!

So I finish on 21st December and start a fresh sometime in January!

Happy days!

Christmas is cancelled!

Seems only 5mins ago when I thought that I would not be home for Chridtmas, now I am faced with unemployment and a potential loss of pay!

We got the news on Friday that we are possibly being bought out by one of our creditors, based in Germany!

Most people are thinking it will be business as usual, yet from past redundancy experiences, it only goes down hill from this point on - all I can say is that, I have my eggs in more than one basket at the moment!

Harmonics

Great its now getting meaty!

Guitar lessons we are now learning harmonics, the art of pressing the strings lightly over the nut between frets and then plucking the string followed by lifting off the finger over the fret board... Get a very cool sound from it - I feel like rocking already... Just need that flying v now!!!

BTW - get Texas's new album Red Book its cool electro tunes!!!

Long time - no blog!

Hello world!

A very gay starting point for all programmers of various languages, why?

Discovered the other day that Microsoft are giving free editions or cut down versions of their development softwares to hobbyists and students - so I quickly grabbed the whole caboodle in order to boost my knowledge. I have set myself a personal challenge to build on the quake 2 engine and make a office / stress relief game, not sure how long it will take or how far I can go with this software before I have to shell out some more money!!!

Fingers crossed I'll be leading the development team for Quake 10 before you know it!

I'm considering turning my new poems into songs and trying my luck at sending demos to record companies either as a band or a song writer, might have to find a voice other than mine, any takers or volunteers?

I'm quite interested in acquiring a new electric guitar - I fancy a Jackson flying V or something similar, I owned one once many years ago - that I won off a friend in a stupid bet, but then lost it again in another bet where the odds were stacked up against me, subsequently I don't believe in betting or make any references to it - just lands me in trouble, I miss my axe :(

Martial mutants of the underground vision!

I'm not sure how long I can sit on this speeding train until my back does that awful spaz and I jump out of my seat like a red hot poker has been shoved up my ass!

I wish these painkillers kicked in early!

Got so much work on, and such little time to get them done by, and not many people that can help either - other than a time-lord and a TARDIS.

I'm going to use some army language now (my grandads term for swearing) don't read this para if you disapprove, it helps me to vent my anger vocally! Fuck shit bollocks, fuck shit bollocks, fuck shitty bollocks!!!

That's better much more relieved.

Little Grips

1. Do you hate it when someone tries to educate you on a subject that you obviously know more about?

2. Do you hate it even more when that person tries to imply that they know what they are talking about by adding some technical jargon into the conversation to try and make you believe that they "DO" know what they are talking about and they are not "BLUFFING" their way through a conversation and looking like a prat at the same time?

I do. (Hate it!)

---

Okay, I now need some answers, any mind reading, future knowing all seeing eyes out there need to listen up!

1. Several years ago I wrote what I think is an amazing collection of poems, that maybe the world is now ready for, however I have misplaced the book, it was typed and bound with a yellow cover. I remember placing it in a safe place (that ole chesnut) and seeing it again recently, yet I cannot for the life of me find it anymore!

So my questions are where has it gone?

Where did I put if for safe keeping?

Who stole it and is now making money from it?

Who chucked it out thinking it was. a bunch of paper?

Did someone burn it?

Was it an accident?

Thanks, I look forward to receiving your comments and spiritual guidance!

Peace out!

Criminal Damage

I witnessed something shocking today involving a clamping truck and an employee of Islington council.

They were collecting and towing away a car that had been parked illegally. I would say they had instructions to clear the car and take it to the pound, not to pick it up, smash the window in, drag the chain across the car scratching the paintwork off it, and then crush the front of the car with the crane!

Word of advice don't park your car in the borough of Islington and collect is late as you might find it fubar when you come to reclaim it!

Suit you sir!

Noel what were you thinking wearing that suit today?

First day on the new job went a bit wrong, woke up 17mins before my train was due to depart, how I managed to get washed and dressed and on the train in time I'll never know - one thing I do know is that I must have sworn at least 50 times!

Then sat on the train, I forgot an important cable imperitive for a job, as luck would have it Noel brought his cable in on request, which was nice of him!

Got to work, arrived opened the iron door and then realised I hadn't picked up my key fob, so I had to wait like a lemon for someone to come and open the main door!

Grabbing some of my time back now, heading to my guitar lesson, missed it last week due to my appraisal, hope I didn't miss all the best bits!

Re-designed my site - fresh new colour, check it out and leave comments etc - www.dansheridan.co.uk

Portfolio Time

I'm kind of thinking about re-moulding my current cd and dvd portfolio into a web version, not in order to find a new job, because I'm very happy at the moment, just got the promotion that I have been working my ass off to achieve!

More for people to see what I have been creating over the past few years since graduating.

If anyone remembers me, I have added some big names to my portfolio mainly music orientated but more recently feature films, of which I cannot disclose as the job hasn't been completed yet, hopefully soon though, watch this space for a url... Probably jinx'd myself now and I'll be bogged down with work!

Outspoken

Why is it, I'd be happy singing at home to my favourite song, or in the office, but when my listening to a tune on the train, I feel restrained. Is it that I'm too polite? I just have the urge to jump out of my chair and air guitar while singing along to some music!

Pumpkin man

I'm sure the world acts its weirdest for me!

Missed my train this morning, ended up on the late one - had to sit sandwiched between two broad shouldered people one of which was asleep!

Every now and again his arms would jump like a chicken flapping its wings, think he was having a knightmare!

Then he started to fall forwards, you the know the feeling that you get when you dream that you are falling (christ sake, I'm sat next to another one as I'm writing this now)and you suddenly jump forwards!

In the end I got fed up and elbowed him, it was funny as he jumped out of the seat, enough for me to wedge myself in the chair, make some ground!

If that's not weird a man then got on the train with a big pumpkin!

Is there a new fetish out there?

Lost in space

If you don't want to know what happens on next weeks lost don't read any further!

That bloke who was an officer in the Iraqi republican guard gets captured, and finally finds the source of the French radio transmission, and finds a well known face from the land of sci-fi!

The Minbari ambassador Delene, now called Danielle! It was a bizzare episode, with flashbacks to his life before torturing people for information, and the irony involved with him being captured and tortured too!

In the caves the fat bloke, found some golf clubs and decided to set up a golf course, everyone found it a bit hard to believe. I suppose if I was in that position, I too would rather play golf than mope around all day waiting for a rescue that obviously isn't going to happen!

Connected

I've been getting these weird feelings recently about passing away, or losing everything, and feeling very tired and weak.

Is it just me or does everyone feel that they retain a part of their parents thoughts and feelings, I just recently found out that my dad is not that well at the moment, and I thought that maybe the weird feelings that I have been having are somehow connected, can't be purely coincidence, can it?

Trains, overhead planes and no frakking automobiles!

Why the frak is it when you have a meeting or appointment to attend that public transport fails you like no other transport could? I even went to bed early to be up at the crack of dawn to catch a ridiculously early train!

Now I'm on a train to a destination with two outcomes either walk my onward journey or freeze on the platform waiting for the next available train!

Soreness

Not sure if me playing rugby was such a great idea this weekend, my legs and arms are weak as anything, I'm not sure if I'll be able to lift my favourite pint of ale!

It was good though to get back in the swing of things and what I am most proud about is that as a team and personally we all lasted for the full duration of the game!

Made a star appearance at rugby this saturday against Worthing 5th, and we roasted them 30-10

Some one bit me on the shoulder when I was on the ground, I think they must be harbouring vampires, also the first team beat rivals Plumpton a massive 63-0!

Political rant!

Just read in the news how the fuel protests are coming along, apparently they are using go slow tactics on the M4 during rush hour.I have just done dome calculations based on salary tax and national insurance which goed into the bank of the nation and its shocking, add the tax from petrol, vat on products and your into billions of pounds, not including council tax! So where does all this money go? We seem to think its okay for the government to fund x million pounds on military aircraft, yet they won't spend the same on curbing the MRSA bug that is killing people in our hospitals each year! They would rather protect us against threats from outside our great country! I wish they would get their priorities right!

Morning rant over! Back to listening to Linkin Park, I love the album Hybrid Theory...

Whose the daddy!

Not the same one that was trapped in the bedroom, a daddy long legs or as I know now a spider variety was squished in cold blood by a man and his newspaper, the FT of all papers. Harvest Men is another name for them. I was chatting with the boss man today and he agreed that its easy to pick up a daddy long legs, yet it is difficult to pick up a spider! If only all spiders had wings - flies would really be in trouble then... Okay I'm babbling on, time to get off the train!

New songs - old vibe

Why do people re-invent old songs?do they think they will sell better if people recognise them, I'm listening to some crap that has a Dario G tune as its base with some trancey trumpet over it, and some woman shouting about her mama too. Leave it, doesn't work!

Morning World

On the train in at the moment, I hate trains as soon as it rains the signals fail and there is chaos on what some people think is a great piece of infrastructure! Wise up politians is a pants system!

My morning mission was to evac a daddy long legs from the bedroom, where did the name daddy long legs come from - it must have a really complex latin name that no one can pronounce hence the silly name!

My mission was a disaster, either they have got faster or my reactions have slowed, probably the later of the two. I just didn't want to injure the little fella so I left him on the wall until I get home later. Apparently they only have a day to live, do they have a purpose in their short lifespan, must be one of those many great wonders of the world, I therefore felt he should be allowed to live in our house for the day.

Blogberry

Finally got my Blackberry up and running from my death bed, suffering with the dreaded flu bug at the moment. I should be hanging from a meat locker at the moment I am that stiff, not to mention the evil headache! Why is it when you have the wolrd's worst headache does your neighbour decide to get out his angle grinder and cut concrete! I'm going to give him 10 minutes, if he is still grinding away then I am going to have to say something!

Indestructible

It's late and yet again I am pondering on the unknown

Time is running out at the moment for my Dad who currently suffers from Cancer of the Brain. I just wish I knew the future and how long we have left together, but I don't. I just have to keep telling myself that it will be okay, to be strong and hold it together, get on with my life and keep level headed!

I was inspired to write a poem the other day as I was feeling emotional and thought that I might share it with the blogging community, please feel free to comment on this, I would look forward to your words... It's called Indestructible here goes....

Indestructible

A fragile mind
For such a complex world
A life unkind

A disease we cannot cure
Holding on to your life
Taking away all that is pure

A place in our hearts
To be remembered by
The end to our future starts

A life misunderstood
The light's just gone out
Please shed no more tears, blood

We are not indestructible dad
Just flesh and bones
For me, it's all too soon, so sad...

--------------------------------------

That's it I feel better for sharing it with someone now, hope you were moved by these words! I'm off to bed now, travelling tomorrow so it will be a long day!

Nite Nite!

Like a right idiot!

Started the day off well this morning, I was walking down the road, and looking across the road at some strange behaviour, when I tripped up a step, coffee in hand!

Coffee flew out of hand on to pavement and all over my face... luckily my clothes were saved, I looked like a right idiot, however I tried to regain my balance before falling flat on my face...

Shrugged it off and walked up to the office door - trying not to look at any potential passers by who might have seen my trip up...
